A new study by the American Heart Association has found that the misuse of a Taser can cause sudden cardiac arrest and death.

A Taser sends a 50,000 volt initial shock then 100 microsecond pulses of 1,200 volts and is intended as a non-lethal weapon for officers. However, over 500 people have died after being subjected to a Taser by officers since 2001.

The lack of consistent Taser training policies and regulation on Taser usage in police departments across the US has contributed to misuse of the non-lethal weapon.

The source makes has financial interest as he testifies against Taser.  He reviewed only 8 files.  Disregards more that a million with zero deaths.
Thanks for the comment John. The author of the source article is focusing on misuse of the teaser and saying that there should be better and more uniformed training of the device. It's possible that there are many people using the Taser correctly but there could also be many improper uses that need to be addressed by police departments.
