A recent study has found a close correlation between per capita income and tree coverage in cities located in the US, South America and China.

The study found that for every 1% increase of per capita income, the demand for trees increased by 1.76%. When per capita income decreased, the demand for trees also decreased by 1.26%.

The findings were also supported by satellite images which showed more tree coverage in wealthier cities.

Researchers believe that wealthier cities are able to collect more taxes from higher valued properties which then provides funds for planting and maintaining more trees. Wealthier individuals are also able to afford more land to plant trees, as well as maintenance.

Researchers noted that a city without enough tree coverage will not only adversely affect its aesthetic appearance but its air quality and residents' quality of life as well.
