Louisiana Republican Supports State Funds For Religious Schools, As Long As They’re Not Islamic

When Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal signed a religious school voucher program for his state, Republican lawmakers applauded the move.

The program allows state funds to be used to move students from public schools to the religious school of their choice.

Representative Valarie Hodges was one of the Republican lawmakers that supported the measure but is now backpedaling after realizing that it applies to all religious schools, including Muslim schools.

Hodges said she had originally embraced the measure as something that would support the founding fathers' religious beliefs, which she believed was Christianity.  

Hodges said she does not support allowing state funds to be used by Muslim schools in Louisiana.

Representative Kenneth Havard has also said he does not support using state funds for teaching Islam.
