A US Navy ship opened fire on a small boat after it came too close to the ship. The incident occurred about 10 miles from a Dubai port in the Persian Gulf.

The crew of the US Rappahannock repeatedly warned the small boat that it was too close and eventually fired a warning shot.

When the boat failed to heed the warnings, the crew was ordered to disable the boat and opened fire with a .50-caliber machine gun.

One person was apparently killed on the boat. A US Navy investigation is under way and the United Arab Emirates will also review the incident.

UPDATE: CNN reported 3 people were also injured on the boat.
