In New York City, a group of female protesters have filed a civil suit against Deputy Inspector Anthony Bologna for illegally pepper spraying them while they were detained behind police netting during the Occupy Wall Street protests.

New York City has refused to cover defense costs for Bologna in light of Internet videos showing the incident. Bologna must now cover his own legal fees with the help of his union. Bologna could be held personally liable for any financial damages.

After the incident, the NYPD punished Bologna by deducting 10 vacation days.
