According to a new academic study, the repeal of the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy one year ago has not negatively affected the military's readiness.

The study's team included professors from the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy and U.S. Marine Corps War College.

The scholars reached out to 553 generals and admirals who warned that the repeal would hurt military readiness and got interviews with 13 officers.

Other research included interviews with opponents and advocates of the repeal, as well as active duty service members of all sexual orientations, and on-site field observations of several military units.

The study found that in some cases the repeal improved trust and cohesion among the troops and enhanced the military's ability to pursue its mission.
