Kennedy nephew Skakel denied parole

Michael Skakel, the 52-year-old imprisoned nephew of Robert F. Kennedy, was denied parole at his first hearing since he was convicted 10 years ago for beating teenager Martha Moxley to death in 1975.

Martha Moxley, 15, was found dead after going to a party in a wealthy gated community in Connecticut with Skakel, also 15 at the time, his older brother and other teens.

Skakel was tried and convicted in 2002 of beating Moxley to death with a golf club and sentenced 20 years in prison.

As Skakel maintains his innocence, his defense submitted 65 letters to the parole board describing him as a model prisoner and deeply religious. Martha's brother also sent a letter requesting the denial of Skakel's parole as he is a "representative of the most dangerous aspect of our society" who thinks rules of general society do not apply to him.
