Senator Trotter's bond set at $$25K on gun charge

Illinois State Senator Donne Trotter, currently a candidate for the vacated seat of former Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr., was arrested at Chicago's O'Hare Airport for attempting to board a plane with a gun.

Trotter told police he was working the late shift as a security guard the night before and forgot his loaded .25 caliber pistol was in his garment bag. Trotter has the proper permits and licenses to carry a firearm for security work.

Trotter was charged with a felony and had a $25,000 bond set with the condition that any other guns be surrendered.

Trotter is also a longtime gun-control advocate. It remains to be seen if this will impact Trotter's candidacy for Congress.
