GiveLocally.net is a startup developed by attorney Brad Newman and entrepreneur Andrew "Bo" Young III, that allows working-class people who need emergency financial assistance to tell their stories and gives donors the opportunity to support members of their own communities. The site intends to help those who would otherwise be overlooked by charities or government services.

18% of the total donation goes to cover administrative costs, including a pre-screening  process for those asking for assistance to avoid scammers. Recipients receive in-kind assistance and not cash, such as grocery store cards, rental payments directly to the landlord and medical payments directly to providers.

Through the site, donors can see how much of their donation is going to whom, in what form and when. Donations are not tax-deductible since GiveLocally is not classified as a non-profit.

In the past 6 months, about 850 people nationwide have donated tens of thousands of dollars and more than 200 families and individuals have been helped through the site.

I like reading the news, but I dislike reading terribly written stories full of bad puns.
